DALLAS, PA – March 20, 2009 –Metz & Associates, Ltd., a leading dining and environmental management provider, is bringing the fun excitement of March Madness to the customers it serves. Every year, as winter comes to a close, a familiar ailment spreads across the US. The sound of bouncing basketballs, squeaking sneakers and a roaring crowd are just a few of the symptoms that alert us to the condition called March Madness. This is the name given to the annual tournament, featuring 65 college basketball teams from across the country, which takes place primarily during the month of March.

“We are always happy to say goodbye to a long, cold winter and hello to spring by bringing the thrill of March Madness to the students and faculty we serve,” said Natalie Baker, Metz & Associates general manager at Pittsburgh Technical Institute (PTI). “This is our second year of partnering with Coca –Cola on this highly-anticipated promotion.”

Dining areas in various Metz & Associates accounts, ranging from colleges and universities to business, industry and healthcare, are decorated with elaborate March Madness displays, including a large bracket banner and a pop-a-shot mini basketball hoop. Coca-Cola partnered with Metz on the promotion and provided prizes, including tee shirts, Final Four baseball caps, a folding chair with side cooler, commemorative glasses, My Coke Rewards cards, lapel pins and more. March Madness is advertised throughout the dining areas of all participating accounts with colorful basketball table tents, countertop signs and static clings.

“Although this annual event is only in it’s second year, it has become one of our most popular promotions,” Baker said. “Not only are the students excited about all of the action revolving around March Madness, but our staff also gets in on the fun by wearing face paint, wigs and jerseys in the colors of their favorite teams.”

At PTI, students and faculty members complete bracket sheets at the start of the tournament and then are eligible to win prizes after each round. As the tournament proceeds and the number of teams is reduces, the pop a shot is used as a tiebreaker, with two individuals vying against each other for a prize by shooting baskets in rapid succession. Basketball themed foods and snacks are also featured throughout the weeks of the promotion, and various Coca-Cola products are highlighted as well.

“The pop a shot mini basketball hoop is our grand-prize at the end of the competition,” Baker said. “Many students are eager to win that much sought after prize after they enjoy daily basketball shootouts and games throughout the promotion.”
