DALLAS, PA – May 19, 2008 - Metz & Associates, Ltd., a leading dining service and environmental management company, recently hosted it’s annual “Ultimate Campus Chef” Competition, a creative spin on the popular food network & Bravo shows where competitors face off in a frantic culinary battle.

Competitions were held throughout Pennsylvania at Misericordia University, Gannon University, the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville and Cheyney University.

“The competition proved to be fun and exciting way to bring the entire campus communities together, with administrators and faculty members joining together with students to cheer on the teams,” said Dennis Daley, district manager, Metz & Associates, Ltd.

During the competition, teams at each school entered into a head-to-head competition that showcased their culinary prowess. Each team had one hour to prepare three dishes using a mystery market basket of ingredients, which included a unique array of items, such as Vienna Sausages, Purple Top Turnips, Klondike Bars, Peanut Butter, Chicken Strips and Orange soda among other items. A standard list of items, such as onions, tomatoes, snow peas, butter and various seasonings was also available for use by each team.

Each dish was then presented to a team of judges, who evaluated them on taste, presentation, originality and name. The judges enjoyed the originality of items such as the “Deep Fried Elvis,” a mouthwatering deep fried mixture of sliced banana, peanut butter and oreo cookie.

“School spirit was very apparent at all of the schools, including Cheyney University where the cheerleaders and pep squad were on hand to encourage the teams throughout the competition and at Misericordia University, where the Director of Residence Life served as the MC for the competition,” Daley said. “Students in the audience at the competitions were also encouraged to get involved as they answered culinary trivia questions to win a variety of prizes. It was a terrific way for students to end the school year.”
