| DALLAS, PA – August 14, 2009 – The Penn’s Wood Trails in the Allegheny Highlands was the setting for the 12th annual Jeep Jamboree held earlier this summer in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The Metz & Associates, Ltd. dining team at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford (UPB) catered the event, providing hot and hearty fuel for the hungry off-road adventurers.
The Jamboree days began early on the campus of UPB with the Metz team serving up big breakfasts of scrambled eggs, made to order omelets, blueberry pancakes, sausage links and home fries to all of the “jeepers”. The group was then sent off on the challenging trails armed with specially packed lunch boxes to enjoy along the way. The Metz culinary staff then headed out on the trails themselves to fire up the grills and feed a hot lunch to the hungry trailblazers on a certain pre-chosen trail. “Friday’s weather was perfect for outdoor grilling, but on Saturday stormy weather called for rain slickers and boots,” said Lucy Nuzzo, catering manager, Metz & Associates, Ltd. at UPB. “The rain didn’t dampen the fun, as there was plenty of good food and laughter, as well as lots of mud for the group to enjoy.” The jeepers traveled through miles of pristine forests that rarely see visitors, with trails that provide light scenic challenges, medium challenging trails for the more adventurous, as well as difficult trails for the very experienced jeepers. Each trail level provided a variety of hills to climb, mud to traverse and rocks to negotiate. A dinner feast awaited the weary adventurers returning to the UPB campus on both Friday and Saturday evenings, featuring such items as Caribbean pork, fish with lemon pepper sauce, Italian sausage with fried peppers and onions, marinated grilled vegetables, a pizza bar and more. A dessert that had been designed in the shape of a woodsy trail was constructed of rich chocolate brownies with colored icing depicting the muddy trails, greenery and also a flowing stream. “This is one of our favorite annual events, and having had the opportunity to cater it for the past 12 years has enabled us to personally get to know many of the regular attendees,” Nuzzo said. “We have even been lucky enough to see many of the children grow up before our very eyes and we have also had the excitement of witnessing three marriage proposals among the attendees. It’s an event we look forward to year after year.” Metz & Associates, Ltd., a premier food service company for the Northeast United States, provides dining and environmental management to clients such as hospitals, assisted living & long-term care facilities, school districts and independent schools, colleges and universities and corporate offices.
