“My nieces, age five, eight and nine came to visit me at lunchtime and what a surprise they got,” said Sandy Adams, Radiology Department Secretary at PMC. “They loved the funnel cakes and the sand art. Great ideas.”
It was certainly a feast to satisfy any sweet tooth, as patients, staff and visitors alike enjoyed strawberry ice cream sundaes, funnel cakes with strawberry topping, and pound cake with strawberries and whipped cream. There were also pints of freshly picked Pennsylvania strawberries available for purchase.
In addition to all of the mouthwatering strawberry delights, the hospital’s Patient Relations department was on hand with a sand art craft table and a fly fisherman fly tying exhibition. The Metz team also provided a magician, Mark Mysterrio, who helped keep the well-fed crowd entertained.
One energetic Metz staff member, Tracy Berry – yes, that’s right – her last name is really Berry – donned a strawberry costume provided the by Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and happily took photos with patients and others.
“This was just one of the many themed days we had planned for PMC this summer,” said Heidi Franssen, Food Service Director, Metz & Associates, Ltd. at Pocono Medical Center. “It’s a great way to keep up patient and staff morale and the Strawberry Festival was a wonderful way to showcase locally-grown produce.”
Other themed days hosted by Metz & Associates this summer at PMC, included National Waffle Day, which featured homemade Belgian Waffles with assorted topping; National Creamsicle Day, a great way to cool off in the summer heat; Hot & Spicy Day, which featured an outdoor Mexican barbeque; and Lemon Juice Day, featuring fresh squeezed lemonade and lemon dessert bars.
