New Look for Boomer’s Café at University of Pittsburgh at Titusville
For Immediate Release
DALLAS, PA – October 17, 2008 –The school colors of blue and gold reign supreme in the re-design of Boomer’s Café on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville (UPT). Named after a long-time employee of UPT, David “Boomer” McEnteer, Boomer’s received extensive renovations this summer to improve functionality and speed of service. The project, which took 4-weeks to complete, was finished in time for the start of the new school year.

“The renovations helped to create an environment that was much more welcoming and also enabled us to eliminate the long lines during peak meal times,” said John Baughman, Metz & Associates general manager at UPT. “It is also making it much more convenient for students to grab a quick bite for breakfast or lunch between classes, rather than having to make the trip to the main dining area.”

Prior to the renovations, Boomer’s consisted of a large counter area which caused long lines. The counter was removed and replaced with a more open area, featuring a new Market Street Deli station, a large self-service grill window, a new soup, hot lunch buffet, Pizza Express, a salad bar, a drink station and an Up For Grabs concept. A large wall, which has been decorated with a panoramic photo of campus, provides a sound barrier for stage performances that take place in the café’s seating area, which can accommodate 200 students.

“One of the goals of this project was to increase the level of convenience for our students,” Baughman said. “Through our weekly food service committee meetings, we’ve determined that our goals were accomplished, as student comments are showing they are extremely pleased with both the speed of service and the convenience.”

In addition to the many grab and go options, the café also duplicates the hot entrée served in the University’s main dining area at a hot lunch buffet station featured at Boomer’s each day. This enables the 245 students on the University’s meal plan to utilize the plan at Boomer’s for a soup, salad and entrée, just like they do in the main dining area.

“With Boomer’s central location in the main quad area, where most classes take place, students are appreciating the ease of which they can grab a complete lunch in a short amount of time,” Baughman said. “Administrators are also pleased with the positive changes in both the look and service level at Boomer’s.”
