A great time was had by all students and staff members who enjoyed lively entertainment provided by traditional Oompa bands while they munched on Oktoberfest foods. “Many of our vendors provided new food products for students to sample during a mini food show that was held during the Oktoberfest events,” said Melody Seigried, purchasing agent, Metz & Associates, Ltd. “After sampling the items, students completed survey sheets voting for their favorite foods. The highest vote getters will be incorporated into the menus at the various colleges. It’s a great way to get student participation into menu development.”

Students at each location who participated in the survey were automatically entered in a raffle for $1,000 in grant prizes. Three winners at each of the seven participating colleges and universities received grants for $500, $300 and $200 respectively. Colorful, fall-themed decorations adorned each of the venues during the festivities and students participated in a variety of fall-themed events. At Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, talented students entered a pumpkin decorating contest, which displayed a mix of traditional Halloween creations with a unique twist, with their fellow-students voting for the winning pumpkin. At the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, students got into the Oktoberfest theme as they enjoyed root beer sodas served up in frosty, take-home mugs.

“This is sure to become an annual tradition that becomes a favorite throughout the colleges and universities we serve,” Seigried said.
