DALLAS, PA- December 18, 2006, 2006—Budding young chefs in the pre-kindergarten classes at Friends Select, an independent Quaker school in Philadelphia, recently got a hands-on lesson in cooking from Thomas Smith, Metz & Associates, Ltd.’s general manager at the school.

Pumpkin bread was on the menu and the children eagerly learned about, measured and combined all of the tasty ingredients. “This was truly an interactive lesson,” Smith said. “Many of the youngsters were eager to help out and thoroughly enjoyed their time in the kitchen.”

Metz & Associates, Ltd., the school’s dining management provider, believes that enabling a child with the ability to transform ingredients into appetizing food opens their eyes in making wiser choices about what they eat.

“Cooking is perfect for children,” Smith said. They enjoy mixing and measuring and it offers them an opportunity to be proud of their accomplishments and share with others. Most of all, they have a great time while doing it.”
